Coazzolo - The Amphitheater
The show of the landscape
Go down the steps or walk along the grassy road in front of the “Osteria dell'Asilo”, the Amphitheater of the Landscape is ready to welcome you with its green embrace!
Designed by local authority arts and entertainment Mr. Silvano Stella and inaugurated in 2019, the Amphitheatre represents the perfect synthesis between culture and landscape. Inspired by the models of ancient Greece, the Coazzolo Amphitheatre hosts every year cultural events, concerts, readings and theatrical performances, adding to the object of the representation the wild dramaturgy of a unique landscape, which UNESCO recognized as a World Heritage Site.
Take a moment to sit on the grass-covered bleachers. In front of you spreads the valley of the Rio Freddo, whose farm road marks the border of the hills on which Barbaresco wine can be produced. The elegant silhouette of the village of Neive stands out on the next ridge. See how the Clock Tower defies the top of Monviso, the austere rock massif that dominates the gentle curves of the hills on bright days. Let your eyes move from Neive village slightly to the right, up to the last line of hills that appear in the background. Here is the Roero, which rises on the left bank of the river Tanaro and is marked by an impressive sequence of castles: from left to right stand the cubic manor of Guarene, the imposing castle of Magliano Alfieri, the palace of Govone and, on the hill that closes the gaze, the palace of the Marquis Alfieri, close friends of the Savoy dynasty.
The enhancement of the landscape is also achieved by sustainable choices. The Amphitheater was built by recovering an uncultivated land. The foundations in reinforced soil do not use cement but 100% recoverable building materials: overlapping metal mesh cages hold the ground compacted in jute bags. Between one cage and the other the grass was sown, which, once grown, zeroes the landscape impact of the structure.
