Costigliole d'Asti - The natural amphitheater of Saint Michael
Shows in nature
The Bricco Saint Michael rivals the hill of Bricco Lù for its scenic grandeur, its arcane charm and the beauty of its views. Not everyone knows, however, that in the twelfth century a flourishing village called Monte Prevedero was located here, with its own castle and a church dedicated to the Archangel and dependent on the Pieve of Ponte (nowadays named Val Cioccaro). In 1198 part of Monte Prevedero inhabitants, together with those of other ten villages in the area, founded the new center of Costigliole in order to escape the authority of Manfredi I Lancia count of Loreto. They also gave life in the same year to the municipal institutions under the aegis of the Republic of Asti. Despite the transfer of its inhabitants, Monte Prevedero never completely disappeared, and its ancient church of Saint Michael, although modified several times over the centuries, continues to dominate the horizons of these hills, and to give its name to the highest Bricco.
The amphitheater, inaugurated in August 2020, was conceived and built by current administration over a land partly owned by the city and partly property of the family Dente of Saint Michael.
