Costigliole d'Asti - Boglietto
The small outpost of Burio Castle
Located on the border between the Provinces of Asti and Cuneo, Boglietto is one of the most important centers of the Municipality of Costigliole d'Asti, both from demographic and economic point of view. In fact, there are numerous commercial, artisan and industrial companies in the area as well as very valuable agricultural productions which thanks to grappas, wines and meats have contributed to increase the value of the great gastronomic Boglietto tradition.
Boglietto’s name has a long and interesting history. Since it is located about 700 meters far from the castle of Burio, it has been assumed in fact that it was a small outpost of it, i.e. a Burietto. A confirmation of this theory is given by a story that comes directly from Scotland, precisely from Edinburgh, where the historian Dennis E. Rhodes found, in the National Library of Scotland, an incunabulum printed in 1476 in Venice and written by the Piedmontese Domenico Serafini, priest and professor of Latin. The text mentioned a guy called Obertus de Burieto, another named Bonifacio of Castagnole and the two captains Matteo Gonfalonieri and Antonio de Lignana, all of them surely coming from these lands. Thanks to this trace, the confirmation was obatined of the very clear existence of Burieto, later named Burietto, in dialect Buiet, until the italianization which led to current name Boglietto.
Hospitality, courtesy, productive capacity and good food make Buiet a beautiful center to visit.
